Coffee with AWS Cloud Club Captains in Africa

Coffee with AWS Cloud Club Captains in Africa

This was fun! Let's do more.

Would you believe it if I told you we now have about 20 AWS Cloud Club (CC) Captains In Africa and 87 Cloud Club Captains in total around the world? That's raging cool!

You know what's even more impressive? Cloud Clubs Program started just less than a year ago at the time of writing this note. In that time, the Developer Relations team supporting the AWS Cloud Clubs Program has won some pretty chill awards due to the Program's Impact on the developer community.

AWS Cloud clubs have supported and organized over 500+ cloud-focused events that have helped local community members get good with cloud stuff. Don't believe me? Here's proof right out of the community I serve:

Meet Daniel, a cloud club member at the University of Ilorin who participated in the cloud boot camp we organized and aced the cloud practitioner certification exam afterward.

This is a testimony to all the hard work and dedication that Cloud Club captains worldwide are infusing into the mission to drive value and impact into their local community.

So that left me curious and eager to meet all the fantastic folks leading the programs in their respective communities right out of Africa. And Boom, just like that, I scheduled a meet-and-greet coffee chat for the 1st of November, 2023, and the rest, they say, "is history" 🔥.

I got to meet Mohammed Bangie. He leads the Cloud Club Community at the University of Witwatersrand. Trust me, we also messed up with the pronunciation😂 at first, but he was kind and sweet enough to teach us the right way to say it. Sadly, Mohammed couldn't make the final picture cause of some city-wide technical issue.

Then, there is Tochukwu Chukwure. The Cloud Club Community at the Federal University of Owerri is lucky to have him. By day, he serves and mentors Cloud Club members. By Night, he wears his superhero cape and dives into product deep waters, testing them for bugs and abnormalities as a QA Engineer. Ohhhh and Happy birthday, T. More wine in your cup and chicken wings on your plate.

And now, for the newest, freshest, and newly minted cloud club captain to join the family, meet Delia Ayoko. She is a super fun and cheerful lady who wears an infectious smile.

She joined the ranks of the CC captains less than a month ago and is getting ready to host her first event. It brings me much Joy and fulfillment knowing she won't be alone. I got to know Delia is also a member of the AWS Community Builder program, and I'm gonna be knocking on her doors for insights as I prepare to apply to the program in the next season.

To sum it up, the chat was fun, and It sparked ideas, discussion, and comments on how we can synergize our efforts and impact across communities. We kinda have something brewing, so stay tuned for more info when that finally happens.

I also shared that the first-ever cloud club symposia in Africa will happen soon - in January 2024. Okay, okay, maybe not that soon, but it's closer than it looks. We've got the call for speakers open, and you can apply to speak at the symposia.

I am so happy to belong to the Cloud Club family, and I'm pumped for what the future holds.

If you are considering starting an AWS cloud club on campus, apply when the application comes up. It's a fulfilling experience.

Massive shoutout to all the Cloud Captains everywhere. You all rock! Until the next coffee chat, brothers and sisters. Stay blessed.
